Roxen website McHenryCountySports.com won prestigious EPpy Award for the Best Sports Web Site in the U.S.

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – May 27, 2009: The Northwest Herald's prep sports Web site – McHenryCountySports.com – was named the EPpy Award winner for the Best Sports Web Site with fewer than 1 million unique monthly visitors. McHenryCountySports.com is part of Shaw Newspapers and run on Roxen CMS.

The winners in the 2009 EPpy Awards were announced during the annual Interactive Newspaper Conference and Trade Show in New Orleans. Editor & Publisher and Mediaweek magazines sponsor the annual national competition. ESPN.com was named the winner as Best Sports Web Site with more than 1 million unique monthly visitors.

"McHenryCountySports.com has been recognized as one of the best prep sports Web sites in the country since it debuted in 2004," Northwest Herald Editor Dan McCaleb said. "With the Rant, our power rankings and tons of videos, the site really is a prep sports lover's dream. We're proud to provide such an outlet to local prep sports fans, and we're honored to be recognized by our peers around the country (U.S.)."

According to Editor & Publisher, the 2009 EPpy Awards mark the 14th consecutive year of the program, which honors the best Web sites in the media world, including newspapers, TV/cable, radio and magazines. Nearly 400 entries were submitted for this year’s competition, which were evaluated by nearly 50 judges.

"Winning the EPpy Award is incredibly exciting and a tremendous honor," Northwest Herald Managing Editor for Interactive Media Mike Weiler said. "It's reflective of the outstanding and dedicated work of dozens of people in the company, but most notably Lester Johnson and Ryan Glab, who have logged a lot of hours and have been working on the site since its inception."

“McHenryCountySports.com winning the prestigious EPpy Award makes us at Roxen very excited and proud. It’s an honor to work with such professional people at The Northwest Herald as well as the whole Shaw Newspaper group. We’ve just been consistently impressed with what they are doing on the Roxen platform”, says Staffan Ekholm, CEO at Roxen Internet Software.
