Workflow and staging

Coordinate and collaborate

When many people are involved in editing a site Roxen CMS can assist to make sure things go smoothly. These helpful features not only bring order to the day-to-day publishing tasks but also improves quality by letting each person in a team handle the jobs they know best.

Workflow – streamlined teamwork

Ensure that editing and reviewing actions take place in the correct order before content is published. Different groups of people can be designated as responsible for each action and as soon as one task is completed the people taking part in the next phase are notified.

Several workflow setups may be active at the same time in separate sections of the site. The workflow administrator may also protect individual phases of the workflow so that e.g. only the webmaster has the final decision of what gets published.

Staging – preview changes before publishing

Roxen CMS includes very advanced staging functionality:

  • Previewing – Each user can preview all of their changes without first publishing pages. This extends well beyond page content – changes to layout templates, graphics modifications and alterations to navigation menus are also previewed. In fact, a change made to a site-wide layout template can be previewed on all pages without affecting any other users that access the site simultaneously. This is extremely powerful and takes a lot of guesswork out of the editing process.

  • Workflow staging – Content can be put into the version-controlled repository without being published on the site. This is ideal for workflow setups where a group of people want to preview the changes before making them visible to everyone.

  • Work area staging – Large-scale redesigns or additions of major sections to a site often run in parallel to the daily publishing work for a long period of time. Roxen CMS lets you create a copy of the whole site into a separate work area where the redesign can take place. When completed, the new site can be published in a few mouse clicks.

Full control over publishing

Any page that is to be published can have a publish and expire time set. Roxen CMS will then schedule addition and/or removal of the page at the given times and take care of updating navigation interfaces, regenerate persistent disk cache data, inform the search engine about the change, push content to Acceleration Servers and so on.

You can also ask for e-mail notification when pages are published or expired, or just to remind you of pages that have been left unmodified for a period of time.
